Our research aims to advance scientific understanding of how the brain works and to contribute to research on Alzheimer’s and other neuro-related diseases. Your unique perspective and experiences make you an ideal candidate, and we believe your contribution could significantly enhance the depth of our findings.

Date and Time: February 2-6, 2024

Location: New QWickCare Plaza, 1395 W. Wickenburg Way, Wickenburg, AZ 85390

What to Expect: This study requires approximately 1 hour of your time. Participants in this study will be asked to do the following study activities:
  • Memory and attention testing
  • Scent detection activity
  • Grip strength testing
  • Body composition measurements
  • A blood pressure measurement
  • A blood collection (a few drops of blood, similar to a finger prick)
  • A scan from our mobile magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner

Enjoy the Preserve trails to learn about the unique plants and animals of this lush desert riparian ecosystem, and cultural history of the Hassayampa River! We will walk on mostly flat, but occasionally uneven or sandy trails for 1-2 miles total, as we check out Palm Lake and one of the trails along the river. Please dress in layers, wear sturdy footwear and sun protection, and carry ample water. Restrooms are available at the parking lot in front of the Visitor Center and a water bottle refilling station is located on the backside of the restrooms building.

Would you like to learn more about birdwatching and community science? Join Ranger Eric for a "Big Sit" style bird count in the garden in front of the Visitor Center as we learn about birds and learn about community science, using eBird. Today is also part of the Great Backyard Bird Count sponsored by Cornell, which runs Feb. 16-19 this year (https://www.birdcount.org/). We will discuss basic bird identification tips and counting methods while we watch birds visiting the fruiting palms. Some binoculars are available to borrow. This program is geared towards all physical abilities and ages. There are a few benches in the garden, but we can also bring out extra chairs.

Join Ranger Derik for an after-hours 1-1.5 miles trail walk to look for and learn about the nocturnal critters of the Preserve! Wildlife seen on past walks have included bats, ringtails, foxes, skunks, javelinas, deer, owls, scorpions, insects, and other cool creepy crawlies! Please bring your own flashlights and blacklights if you have them, but some will be available to borrow. Please carry your own water. Trails are rated as easy and are mostly flat, but there may be some uneven or sandy surfaces.

The Yavapai College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Moonshot are thrilled to announce the return of the 2024 Moonshot Rural Pitch Tour, an entrepreneurship contest akin to Shark Tank, as part of their 5th annual event series.

On Saturday, February 24, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum proudly presents “Paint Wickenburg: Plein Air”, a site-specific and in-person painting event with the Wickenburg Art Club (WAC). Artists’ registration begins at 8 a.m. Painting starts at 9 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. Artwork is available for purchase from 3-5 p.m. in the Museum's Learning Center.

 

The designated area to paint in downtown Wickenburg will be from the Hassayampa bridge to Basha’s supermarket and from Basha’s to the train station on Frontier Street. This event is rain or shine; painting on-site, and Wickenburg has to be the subject. It’s first-come, first-served for easel locations.

Be Bold, Bear the Cold! The Town of Wickenburg’s Recreation Department is hosting a Polar Bear Plunge. Participants take a quick, exhilarating, and chilly plunge into the pool to raise funds for the pool and recreation programs.
Costumes are highly encouraged as there will be a costume contest.
Help us beat our goal of $8k! Last year we raised $6,835.08! This year we would like to use the money to start a scholarship program for the youth and to help support our swim team kids.

Join Ranger Kevin as we learn how to make - or strengthen - our connection with nature through the practice of Silent Walking and Sit Spots. This is a beginner’s level class, so anyone who is interested in cultivating the skills needed to appreciate the natural world in greater depth is welcome. We will learn to relax, change our mindset, and allow our senses to unlock a closer and clearer experience of the Sonoran Desert. This program includes a short, 10-15-minute walk on the trails near Palm Lake, which is rated easy, with very little loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. Please wear closed-toe shoes, and bring water. Hats and sunscreen are recommended. Restrooms are available near the parking area. Please, NO pets.

Over the span of his 20-year career, the internationally renowned, award-winning recording artist, performer and songwriter, has released 15 albums.
