August BearCat Family Friday is August 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with activities in the Cultural Crossroads Learning Center. This month's theme will be snakes! Plain wooden snake forms will be provided for the whole family to create a real or imagined snake with paint. This example shows what looks like a coral snake (venomous) but really resembles a scarlet kingsnake (nonvenomous).  Free activities with paid admission. Free admission for kids 17 and under and always free for museum members.

Help the Wickenburg Elks raise money for the Steele Research Center and Project SALT!

Feel free to bring unwrapped donations of diapers, blankets, booties, caps, and books for all age groups. Older children need arts and crafts items, games, and things to keep them busy. New items only, please. Also asking for $5 to $10 gift cards to give the children. Examples of some great gift cards include iTunes, Amazon, Walmart, bookstores, and coffee shops.

Activities include Diaper Raffle, Baby Bingo Races, Cornhole, Drink Specials, and free BBQ.

West Valley Monthly Mingle Networking Event. Happening the 3rd Monday of every month.
Join us on Monday, 21th August at @5:30pm to meet, mingle, and network with other small business owners and employees from around the valley.

Join Ranger Eric for an after-hours trail walk to look for and learn about the nocturnal critters of the Preserve! Wildlife seen on past walks have included bats, ringtails, foxes, skunks, javelinas, deer, owls, scorpions, insects, and other cool creepy crawlies! Please bring your own flashlights and blacklights if you have them, but some will be available to borrow. Please carry your own water. Trails are rated as easy and are mostly flat, but there may be some uneven or sandy surfaces. We will hike about 1-1.5 miles.

MEETING LOCATION: Preserve Visitor Center

To register, please call the Preserve Visitor Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 9 with your name, phone number and number attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Visitor Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. This program is all ages but might not be suitable for toddlers or young children due to their perception of the darkness and hiking length. Registration for this program will close at NOON (12:00pm) on the day of the program, 8/24/23.

Did you know that over 300 species of birds have been found at the Hassayampa River Preserve? Enjoy an easy-paced walk with seasoned birder and bird bander Anne Leight to spot and identify the many resident and migratory birds of the Preserve. Some binoculars are available to borrow. Join Ranger Eric for a guided bird walk to look and listen for resident and migrant species within the diverse desert riparian habitat of the Hassayampa River Preserve. Along the way, we will discuss eBird and citizen science, how to identify birds by sight and sound, and about the behavioral and ecological traits that make them unique. Some binoculars are available to borrow. Please carry ample water for yourself and wear sturdy footwear and sun protection.

Did you know that these palms were sourced from a native population in Arizona? Find out more! We will be hosting this table inside the air-conditioned visitor center.
