Did you know that over 300 species of birds have been found at the Hassayampa River Preserve? Enjoy an easy-paced walk with seasoned birder and bird bander Anne Leight to spot and identify the many breeding resident birds of the Preserve. Some binoculars are available to borrow. To register, please call the Preserve Visitor Center at 928-684-2772. Space is limited.

Important Notes:

  • Sign-up is required for all programs unless otherwise noted, and capacity for each program is limited to 10 people.  Please call the Preserve Visitor Center at 928-684-2772 to register for programs.  If you find you cannot attend a program you have registered for, please call the Visitor Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.
  • NEW: To improve fairness for all interested in the limited spaces for our programs, each party/household may not sign up for more than 1 of the same type of program per month (i.e. you can sign up for a bird and a night walk, but not 2 bird walks or 2 night walks per month), and each party/household will only be allowed up to 5 spaces per program.
  • Programs are all ages, but might not be suitable for toddlers or young children. Most guided programs involve at least 0.5-1 mile of walking on mostly flat, but sometimes uneven ground.

Join Ranger Eric for an after-hours trail walk to look for and learn about the nocturnal critters of the Preserve! Wildlife seen on past walks has included ringtails, foxes, javelinas, deer, owls, scorpions, and other cool creepy crawlies!  Please bring your own flashlights and blacklights if you have them, but some will be available to borrow. Space is limited, so please contact the Preserve Visitor Center at 928-684-2772 to sign up for this event.

Bark At Breakfast is a K9 Konnection fundraiser to help raise money for veterinary costs of pooches who enter our care. The breakfast is hosted by the Wickenburg Elk’s Lodge and sponsored by a local business. Famous Chef Mary Lamb will be making Hatch Chile and Cheese Burrito or Biscuits and Gravy, a side of bacon, coffee or tea and juice.

 
Come on out and meet several of the pooches, enjoy good food and great people while supporting the dogs at K9 Konnection.

Did you know that Wickenburg gets one of the highest concentrations of migrating turkey vultures in Arizona? Or that the highway bridge in town has a colony of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats roosting beneath it? This free, family-friendly, wildlife viewing event is hosted by the Town of Wickenburg, Maricopa County Parks and the Hassayampa River Preserve, Friends of Hassayampa, Wickenburg Conservation Foundation, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Wild at Heart, Sonoran Audubon, and Maricopa County Master Naturalists. There will be tables with fun and educational activities, visitors can meet Wild at Heart’s rescued education turkey vulture, “Mojo”, use binoculars and spotting scopes to view the vultures and bats up close, and more!

 

Parking is available in the nearby historic downtown district and within easy walking distance of the pedestrian bridge. Bring your friends and family, and experience two of the natural spectacles that Wickenburg has to offer while taking in our breathtaking Sonoran Desert sunset!

Hike around the natural spring and manmade lake at Hassayampa River Preserve. We will be exploring a Riparian zone, one of the rarest and most vital ecosystems in the Sonoran Desert. We will be hiking on smooth non-technical trails with shade. Please bring water and wear proper clothing. As we hike we may be able to see reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammal species. Please no pets.
