Kintsugi---Finding Strength in Imperfection
4/23/2023 noon-4pm (some may finish earlier)
Come heal with us in a safe environment as we embrace the traumas of our life through the art of Kintsugi. We will embrace the life of golden beauty and discover the spirit of kintsugi.
Kintsugi is an ancestral technique, developed in Japan during the 15th century. It consists of repairing a broken object by accentuating its cracks with gold, instead of hiding them. The philosophy behind it goes much deeper than a simple artistic practice. It has to do with the symbolism of healing and resilience. By taking care of the pieces, we then honor the beauty it becomes. The broken object accepts its past and paradoxically becomes more robust, completely unique, more beautiful, and more precious than before it was broken. This metaphor can provide insight into all stages of healing, whether the ailment is physical or emotional.
During this class, you will develop our own kintsugi inspired piece of art that is a reflection of you. At the conclusion of the class, you will walk through your own healing process until you rediscover your wholeness and resilience. Like a living kintsugi, you too can be transformed and strengthened by hardship.
Kintsugi accepts its injuries without hiding them. Covered in gold, they are glorified witnesses to the past and the shock experienced. Cherish your scars!
"Blessed are the cracked and broken, for they will let the light through" --Michel Audiard
You are more beautiful being broken! Come be perfectly imperfect with us.
Class fee of $39 includes:
One bowl/plate
All supplies used in class
Journal
Self-care set to continue your healing at home
