Join Ranger Kevin for an easy-paced, guided walk along the Preserve trails to learn about the plants, animals, ecology, and history of the Hassayampa River Preserve. Space is limited. To register, please contact the Preserve Visitor Center at 928-684-2772.

Important Notes:

  • Sign-up is required for all programs unless otherwise noted, and capacity for each program is limited to 10 people.  Please call the Preserve Visitor Center at 928-684-2772 to register for programs.  If you find you cannot attend a program you have registered for, please call the Preserve Visitor Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.
  • NEW: To improve fairness for all interested in the limited spaces for our programs, each party/household may not sign up for more than 1 of the same type of program per month (i.e. you can sign up for a bird and a night walk, but not 2 bird walks or 2 night walks per month), and each party/household will only be allowed up to 5 spaces per program.
  • Programs are all ages, but might not be suitable for toddlers or young children. Most guided programs involve at least 0.5-1 mile of walking on mostly flat, but sometimes uneven ground.
  • Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, masks are currently required indoors, but not outside on trails as long as physical distancing of at least 6 feet is practiced.

Learn about some of our native Arizona wildlife in this hands-on demonstration with actual desert wildlife (animals used for interactions are non-venomous and are proven education animals). Starts at 11 A.M. at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum’s Learning Center. Free with Museum admission. Free for kids 17 and under and free for members.

This program gives guests the opportunity to learn about rattlesnakes, Gila monsters, gopher snakes, and desert tortoises in the safety and comfort of the Museum’s Cultural Crossroads Learning Center! In this demonstration, guests will learn what to do if they ever see or hear a rattlesnake in the wild, why Gila monsters are such amazing animals, why desert tortoises are protected animals, and how to tell if a snake is venomous or non-venomous. We’ll explore various methods of staying safe in our desert environment as well. The Society points out: “Please note that this demonstration does include live venomous animals, but that they are kept in locked display cases at all times. We believe these animals can help teach valuable information and therefore we incorporate them into our education programs with the utmost safety.”
